Shoes are 100,000 Birr

Well, I have been meaning to blog about this for a quite a while but adjusting to three kids has taken me some time.  We have learned a lot in our three weeks home so I have time to blog a few things.

We were doing some shopping in Ethiopia when we returned for our Embassy date.  As some of us were in the van waiting for the rest of our group, some of the street kids came up to us and were talking with some of us. Amanda, a friend of Shay's, who is a young, cute blonde was approached by one of the street kids who asked for her shoes.  She told the kid that he couldn't have her shoes because then she wouldn't have any.  The kid told her that shoes were 100,000 Birr in Ethiopia and so expensive. She told him that shoes weren't that much.  The next sentence out of his mouth was.......

BARRACK OBAMA IS MY DAD!!!!!

Needless to say, this got quite a few laughs! We probably will always remember this just because it was so off the wall and now you know what the kids are learning to say in Ethiopia!
